What is

Ultrasound

Ultrasound (Medical Ultrasonography) utilises sound waves to visualise muscles, tendons, and internal organs in real time, capturing their size, structure, and any pathology.

You will need to lie down on an ultrasound table, water-based gel will be applied to the examined area, and an ultrasound probe would be pressed firmly against your skin to visualise the underlying organs and structures.

  • Musculoskeletal - Muscle, tendon and soft tissue.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound to assess muscles, tendons and soft tissue for injury and / or lesions.

  • Vascular - Artery and Veins

Vascular ultrasound to assess for obstruction or blockages in your arteries and veins. This procedure is non-invasive and uses sound waves to form an image of the arteries and veins.

  • Biopsies and Injections

Ultrasound guidance can be used by our radiologist to expertly sample and biopsy tissue such as breast and thyroid, and perform imaged guidance injections of joints and bursa.

  • Pelvic

A pelvic ultrasound may require an internal (transvaginal) scan to assess internal pelvic organs. You would need to empty your bladder prior to the procedure and change into a patient gown. Should this be required, the procedure would be discussed with you and consent would be obtained prior to commencement. A chaperone would be offered. Note that you would still need to attend with a full bladder initially for your appointment.

  • Pregnancy

We offer obstetric ultrasounds that are performed during pregnancy for dating, morphology together with growth and well being.

  • Shearwave Liver Elastography

We offer this non-invasive, reproducible method of assessing  liver tissue stiffness and grade fibrosis or scarring.
